Dr Pegah A.M. Sidi, along with professors from the University of North Carolina and the University of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania in the United States, and a researcher from Garmian University in Kurdistan, published a commentary entitled:

Barriers to mental healthcare in the Kurdistan region of Iraq: practitioner perspectives

"In a prestigious international journal called "Medicine Conflict and Survival" belonging to the British Routledge and one of the journals of the Taylor and Francis Group, this journal has an impact factor of 0.43 and is indexed in the Web of Science.

In this commentary, researchers shared their first-hand experiences of barriers to quality mental health services in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq (KRI) include stigma, cultural beliefs, limited awareness, and insufficient professionals and facilities. Practitioners highlighted societal stigma, family reputation concerns, and lack of education about mental health, especially among women, as significant challenges. They highlighted that urgent efforts are needed to address these barriers and strengthen KRI’s mental health system.
