About the department
The nursing department was established in 2018. Classes are taught over a period of two years and divided into four semesters, two semesters each year. When they graduate, students receive a technical diploma in nursing. Students have been taught, both in class and in laboratories with one of the best-equipped labs available in the region, by experienced lecturers who have accumulated their experience through many years of teaching. For a better education experience and relationship with the teachers, students have access to the lecturers during their working hours and after that, if they need consultation on any matter,
In addition, the practical classes are being taught in public and private hospitals, and for this matter, the department has made arrangements with concerned parties and relative authorities. Other external voluntary activities of this department include arranging medical-related events in the city, districts, and sub-districts. Also, preparing seminars and symposiums on medical-related subjects is another activity of this department. All of these external activities and concentration on the means of education are purposely done to enhance the quality of the education that the students receive and introduce them to the medical instructions
The nursing department has adopted the Bologna process, and this has an effective role for the students. This system makes the students continually search and enhance their thinking process on a daily basis in order to accomplish what is asked of them by the lecturers. Also, students are being exposed to a modern education standard, which can benefit graduates in case they decide to continue their education abroad
The Technical Diploma in Nursing is offered on a full-time basis. The full-time program is offered only at the Kurdistan Technical Institute Main Campus in Sulaimani Heights. The duration of study for the full-time program is subject to the student’s entry qualifications and lasts between two (2) years and a maximum of four (4) years.
Award Requirements
To graduate, students must:
Achieve a total of 120 credit hours with a minimum CGPA of 2.0
Pass in summer training
Entry Requirements
The minimum qualifications for candidates who intend to do a technical diploma in the nursing department are as follows:
1) Minimum results based on the Kurdistan Baccalaureate High School Certificate (results would be based on the general requirements as well as other conditions as the prerequisites for the program set by the institute). The percentage required to enter the competition is 50%.
2) Minimum results based on the Kurdistan Baccalaureate Vocational School Certificate (results would be based on the general requirements as well as other conditions as prerequisites for the program set by the institute). The percentage entering the competition is %.
3) Entry Requirements are subject to changes according to annual amendments by the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq
