The 27th of September in each year is labeled as the cervical cancer awareness day. Which is considered one of the global strategies in the campaign for the prevention of cervical cancer and has been started since 2020. The main goal of this campaign is to decrease the disease ratio to 4 in every 1000 women by the end of the decade. Cervical cancer is the cancer that starts from the cervical or any layer of the cervical wall. Which is related to the abnormal growth of our body cells. It is usually asymptomatic from the beginning of the disease. Cervical cancer can be prevented, but it is still a leading cause of death among women, especially in low-income countries. Different types of human papilloma virus, which is known as HPV, are the most common risk factors. HPV is a common sexually transmitted infection that is usually treated by our body’s immunity, but in some cases the virus stays muted in the body and triggers our body cells to change into carcinogenic cells.
Symptoms: the disease is asymptomatic from the early stages; later symptoms like vaginal bleeding, pelvic pain, and pain during intercourse will appear. Treatment: surgery, chemotherapy, radiotherapy, immunotherapy.
The importance of the campaign:
1. Vaccination: to make sure that the majority of 90% of females got vaccinated with the HPV vaccine.
2. screening: make sure that women at age 35 and 45 are doing frequent tests and screenings.
3. Treatments: to make sure that women who are diagnosed or at risk for cervical cancer receive appropriate treatment.
The key role of nurses: Nurses and medical professionals are on the frontlines of this war against cervical cancer. (Nurses can improve and participate in this campaign by educating and encouraging the women for pre-testing and screening, especially during pregnancy and after childbirth.) Let\'s all try together for
world empty of cervical cancer and more stronger females.
